Armoured cars were the first armoured fighting vehicles. Automobiles were converted for military use soon after the beginning of the twentieth century and in 1912 armoured cars were used in action for the first time. They fought throughout the First World War and in the years that followed they were adopted by most armies for reconnaissance and internal security duties.

Yhis book traces their development from the firts improvised designs to the turreted armoured cars in service during the First World War. The emphasis is mainly on British vehicles, but foreign armoured carsare also included.
The book is illustrated with photographs from the archives of the Tank Musuem at Bovington in Dorset.
