La Première Guerre mondiale fut le premier conflit international de l’histoire, faisant plus de 20 millions de morts, dont 11 millions chez les soldats des différentes nations engagées. Les États-Unis qui, au début du conflit, avaient fait le choix de rester neutres, s’engagèrent le 6 avril 1917 suite à la déclaration du président Woodrow Wilson. Le corps expéditionnaire américain, commandé par le général John Pershing, débarqua en France au début de 1918 au rythme de 10 000 soldats par jour, à une période de la guerre où les Allemands étaient incapables de remplacer leurs pertes. Les jeunes soldats de l’Oncle Sam, aux côtés des soldats français aguerris, découvrirent de nouvelles façons de combattre, mais rapidement,
dévoilèrent leurs qualités de combattants et changèrent le cours de la guerre. Le 11 novembre 1918 à 11 heures, plus de deux millions de soldats américains avaient servi sur les champs de bataille et plus de 53 000 avaient perdu la vie.

World War I was the first international conflict in History, causing 20 million deaths, 11 mmillion of whom were soldiers from the different nations engaged. Despite having chosen to remain neutral in the early days of the conflict, the United States entered Wordl War I on the 6th of April 1917 following the declaration by President Woodrow Wilson. The American Expeditionary Forces, commanded by General John Pershing, landed in France early 1918at a rate of 10,000 soldiers per day, at a period in the war when the Germans were incapable of replacing their losses. Alongside experienced French troops, Uncle Sam's young recruits discovered new combat techniques, whilst rapidly unveiling excellent combat abilities that were to change the course of the war. At 11am on the 11th of November 1918, over two millions Americna soldiers had served on the battlefield and over 53,000 had lost their lives.
