Case containing the Pastoral Letter of H.E. Cardinal Mercier. Christmas 1914. Illustrated by the nuns of Maredret in the Gothic style of the 13th and 14th centuries.

Facsimile of the illuminated transcription of the current edition of this pastoral letter, one of the symbols of civil insubordination in Belgium during the Great War. The iconography is inspired by the French style of the 14th century, but depicts the events of the war, with the soldiers wearing pointed helmets...

DESCRIPTION
Case and folder slightly damaged, the rest in very good condition.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
A cardboard case (photos 1 and 3), showing some signs of wear, containing:

A cardboard folder with flaps (damaged, see photos 2, 3) containing the whole (i.e. the pastoral letter and 35 plates)

A ‘paper’ folder containing the pastoral letter, torn over 2 cm (see photo 4).
The pastoral letter is numbered 1094 (out of 1250).

Finally, there are the plates, which are in excellent condition: 35 plates (each in a paper folder with photo album-style paper protection) (see plate 6, photo 5).

Price obtained at auction in similar condition: 222€.
