In 1490, Leonardo da Vinci took part in a kind of congress of architects and engineers, gathered to complete the Duomo of Milan, and met another engineer whose reputation was well established, Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Martini took him to Parma, along with Giovanni Antonio Amadeo and Luca Fancelli, where he had been asked to provide further advice on the construction of the cathedral. It was during this period that Leonardo began to think about technical and military projects. He improved clocks, looms, cranes and many other tools.
This Italeri model reproduces a working version of this ‘marvellous machine’.
