Quand les aviateurs militaires ...
Reference :
PM-079-SL
WRITTEN IN FRENCH
For the first time, the history of the beginnings of military aviation in Belgium is approached from two distinct angles: that of the Engineers, who were initially entrusted with the implementation of aeronautical techniques for military purposes, and that of military aviation historians, who now have sources that were long unavailable, such as the Belgian archive collections seized by the Germans in 1940, transferred to Berlin where the Red Army took possession of them in 1945, and finally returned to Belgium in May 2002.
The originality of this book lies in the multitude of period sources consulted and the evocation of the political-military context of the development of the young Belgian military air force as a backdrop. It is truly a History revisited, which tackles certain little-known aspects, corrects errors and provides details about the first Belgian airmen that have not yet been published.
New information is also provided concerning the types of aeroplanes used by our pilots and military observers between December 1910 and March 1915, thanks in particular to the copies of the purchase contracts kept at the AELR's documentation centre.
