In July 1941, the Willys Overland won the contract, meeting a draconian specification for a light, all-terrain, mufti-purpose vehicle that was easy to drive, maintain and repair. A combination of simple, necessary and sufficient shapes, the jeep was born: a virtually timeless vehicle with a real "look".
